I’ve lived here 35 years and we haven’t done this before.
National Night Out 2019
Trellis partnered with the Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD) to help facilitate and promote Neighborhood Block Parties. This was the first time in over 15 years that National Night Out (NNO) was celebrated in this way.
On August 6th the CMPD visited six Neighborhood BBQ’s and Block Parties throughout the city. (Mesa Verde, Halecrest, Meda Del Mar, Shalimar, Freedom Homes and Union Street.) These visits consisted of quality time spent with each neighborhood. Great conversations with adults, playing games with some of the children, and of course food we’re part of the evening.
The CMPD said “National Night Out is about police-community partnerships & neighborhood camaraderie. Costa Mesa is a special city & we had a great time visiting everyone who put together their block party.”
At Trellis, we believe the second greatest commandment of all time – Love your neighbor! One of the best ways to do this is by getting to know your neighbors and building commUnity where you live. During NNO many new relationships were started and police-community partnership was strengthened. This was a huge step for Costa Mesa in building commUnity and ultimately a healthier Costa Mesa.
Some comments from the community regarding NNO:
- “Tonight was a total success!! Good job!”
- “I was totally not expecting that many police officers to show up. That was so cool!”
- “I’ve lived here 35 years and we haven’t done this before.”
