Celebrating Reading and “Love the Library”

Christ Lutheran Church and Thrivent Financial partnered together to host a "Love the Library" special assembly, pizza party, and library beautification at Wilson Elementary. For the assembly, The Writers Room Production Group acted out Wilson students’ stories! Special recognition was given to much improved student readers, chosen for this award by both Wilson staff and Christ Lutheran literacy volunteers. The honored students were able to invite their parents to the special assembly and were given a certificate for their gains in reading. Many of the church volunteers helped out in various capacities and there was great feedback from the Wilson school community.

In addition, the Wilson students had a class contest to raise money for the library – the classroom that raised the most money for new books in the library were given a pizza party to celebrate, hosted by Thrivent Financial. The Wilson students collectively raised a little over $2,000! The Thrivent team affirmed the class for both saving and for giving generously. Each student was given a piggy bank so they can continue to practice saving money.

As a result of this church-business-school partnership, the Wilson library has been supported and gifted with new books, as well as newly upholstered stools and chairs. The librarian expressed “thousands and thousands of thanks” as the Christ Lutheran volunteers talked with her about students being able to use these new brightly colored stools that once were dull, torn, and dusty for more than 8 years due to a lack of library funding. It was a blessing to see her joy!
